The screening of “Alive Inside” will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Rialto Theatre, which is located in The Villages, a retirement community at 1105 Alonzo Ave. in Lady Lake, Florida. The event is open to the public, and tickets are available online at www.grandpad.net/event. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Family Organization, a local nonprofit that provides counseling and resources to families who have been affected by the disease.

“Alive Inside” is a cinematic exploration of music’s capacity to reawaken souls and bring joy to those suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Filmmaker Michael Rossato-Bennett chronicles the experiences of individuals around the country who have been revitalized through the simple experience of listening to music. His camera reveals how music therapy can triumph where prescription medication falls short.

In addition to the film screening, special guest Dr. Kerry Burnight will speak at the event. Burnight is a professor of geriatric medicine and gerontology at the University of California Irvine, founder of the non-profit Ageless Alliance, and chief gerontologist at grandPad. She was recently featured on the Emmy award-winning talk show “The Doctors,” where she spoke about the life-threatening consequences of chronic loneliness.

“Through music, we can improve the lives of adults living with dementia,” Burnight said. “One of the greatest joys of being a gerontologist is a front-row seat to watch music stimulate and awaken the brains of my patients. Until that joyful day when a cure is found, music is a powerful way to reach the hearts and souls of our loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.”

On-demand transportation company Lyft is also a sponsor of the film screening event. For information, call 1-352-275-6795.
